The 2018-2019 season for the Davis College Falcons women’s basketball team started off on the right note with a 65-56 victory over visiting SUNY Broome Hornets on Wednesday.

Both teams struggled from the field in the game as neither team was able to gain momentum on offense. As a result, the game stayed close most of the way. Davis held on to a slim 4 point lead after 3 quarters and were finally able to break free in the fourth quarter. Freshmen, Elizabeth Singleton (Schenectady, NY), made a big first impression as she poured in a game-high 29 points thanks to several relentless drives to the rim including a game-clinching 3 point play late in the fourth.

To go with Singleton’s 29 points she also pulled in 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Transfer, Michaela McLeod (West Milford, NJ), also posted a double-double in her debut with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Braedyn Mims (Calvert, MD) had a great all-around game with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. For the Hornets, Kasey Krewson led the team with 14 points including 4 three pointers.

The Falcons (1-0) host the Quality Inn Showcase this weekend with Word of Life, Penn State York, and Mid-Atlantic Christian University coming into town. Friday the Falcons play Word of Life at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, the consolation game is at 12:00 p.m. and the championship game is at 2:00 p.m.
