The Davis College Falcons continued their winning ways as they beat Cayuga Community College Spartans on the road by a score of 87-80 on Tuesday.

In the first half the Falcons had trouble getting going as they shot 1 for 10 from three in the opening half and were sloppy with the ball committing 11 turnovers. Fortunately for the Falcons AJ Holmes (Macon, GA) and Derrell Calloway (Lynchburg, VA) brought some life to the team off the bench in the half as Holmes scored 8 and Calloway made a couple big plays of his own to keep them close. The Falcons would trail by 6 at the half by a score of 41-35 but in the second half they would get things rolling. They clamped down on defense only giving up 5 points in the first 5 minutes and took a lead for the first time in the game after a score making it 48-46 with 15:10 remaining. Ernestas Puzaras (Kaunas, Lithuania) got the team going as he hit two of his four three pointers in the game during that stretch. Corban Usry (Statesville, NC) was a perfect 5 for 5 as he poured in 13 points in the second half.

“I thought our ability to get to the foul line tonight made up for some of our offensive struggles. Our guys never panicked and believed that they would figure it out and in the second half we really got going” head coach Dan Rathmell said. “We have a veteran group and they know how to close out games like they did tonight.”

Puzaras led the Falcons in scoring as he had 20 points to go with 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Usry finished with 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting. Jackson Henri (Miami, FL) scored 16 points thanks to his ability to get the foul line where he was 9 of 12 on the game and he also gathered 7 rebounds. Kelvin Tompkins (South Miami) added 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals and Holmes finished with 12 points.

The Falcons (7-4) have now won 5 straight games and will look to close out the first semester on a 6 game win streak as they take on Word of Life on Saturday at Davis College at 3:00 p.m.

Notes: The latest USCAA poll has the Falcons ranked number 16 in the country… This week’s ranking is up 3 spots from last week’s when they were 19th… Their only losses on the season have come from 3 teams ranked in the top 10 in Division II of the USCAA and one team ranked number 10 in USCAA Division I… the 5 game win streak is their longest since the 2014-2015 season.
