The Davis College Men’s Basketball team knew they would be in for a couple tough early season tests in the John Benchoff Tournament at Penn State Mont Alto and came up short in both contests over the weekend.

The opening game they were paired up with host Penn State Mont Alto Lions.  The Falcons started off slow shooting only 29% from the field in the first half and the host team took full advantage seizing a 12 point lead into halftime.  In the second half the Falcons fought back with a few runs of their own keyed by the play of freshmen Anthony Gathings who had 12 of his 19 points after half time.  The Falcons were just never able to get all the way back into the contest and Penn State held on for a 82-66 victory.  A couple of other freshmen shined in the loss with Corban Usry contributing 11 points and 3 assists and Ben Waterman adding 9 points and 8 rebounds.

In the second day of the tournament, Davis College took on the 2017 USCAA National Runner-Up, Penn State York.  The Falcons showed moments of good play but the size and strength of York wore down the Falcons over the course of the contest as they pulled away from Davis with a 90-66 win.

Jackson Henri and Ernestas Puzaras broke out with big performances for Davis in the loss.  Henri poured in 23 points on 7 of 12 shooting and grabbed 8 rebounds as Puzaras came off the bench with aggressive play en route to 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists on the afternoon.  However, no other player for the Falcons was able to reach double figures as they were limited to just 39% shooting overall as a team.

Davis College will look to rebound on Wednesday as they travel to Penn State Schuylkill at 7:00 p.m.
