FALCONS END SEASON WITH 1-4 LOSS TO PBU IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Davis College men's soccer team's season ended on Saturday in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II Eastern Regional finals, as the Falcons lost to Philadelphia Biblical University, 4-1.

Philadelphia scored three times in the second half to break a 1-1 tie. Derek Mosley scored twice in the second half, including the game-winner 10 minutes after halftime.

Philadelphia (18-3) earned a trip to the NCCAA National Tournament next week in Kissimmee, Fla.

"We were a half away from pulling a major upset," Davis College coach Tom O'Connor said. "It was 2-1 with 15 minutes to go, and we just could not put a goal in as hard as we tried."

Tim Thigpen scored an unassisted first-half goal for Davis College (9-4). Caleb Minota made 17 saves in goal as the Falcons were outshot, 21-5.

"I give them all the credit in the world," O'Connor said of his team. "Going to the championship game with seven freshmen, we can build on that for next year."

Thursday, 10/26/06, vs. Lancaster Bible College

FALCONS ADVANCE TO REGIONAL FINAL

JOHNSON CITY, NY -- Davis College's men earned their first berth in the National Collegiate Christian Athletic Association's Northeast Region soccer final with Thursday's 3-0 semifinal victory over visiting Lancaster Bible College.

Freshman Eavan Hickernell pulled even with teammate Tim Thigpen for the team lead with his 12th and 13th goals of the season -- the second assisted by Thigpen -- to help the Falcons extend their program-record win streak to an eighth match. The third goal was scored by Naoki Kagawa off an assist by Tim Thigpen.

Hickernell and Thigpen had recently been named to the All-Region team.

"The kids have been focused and they've just grown," Davis coach Tom O'Connor said. "After a 1-3 start, to be in the championship has been a nice ride."

The Falcons, who had a 20-5 advantage in shots Thursday, will visit Philadelphia Biblical University for the title match at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Thursday, 10/19/06, vs. Word of Life Bible Institute (Pottersville, NY)

FRESHMEN KEY TO 7TH STRAIGHT WIN FOR FALCONS

POTTERSVILLE, NY -- Freshmen Tim Thigpen and Evan Hickernell each had a goal and an assist in the first half, as the visiting Davis College men's soccer team closed out its regular season with a 2-1 victory Thursday over the Word of Life Bible Institute.

The win was the seventh straight for Davis College (8-3), breaking the school record of six straight wins set by the 1999 team, according to coach Tom O'Connor. Thigpen's goal, his 13th of the season, tied a single-season team record. Hickernell's goal was his 11th of the season.

"When we were sitting 1-3 a month ago, 8-3 seemed a long way away," Davis coach Tom O'Connor said. "So I give these kids all the credit in the world."

Caleb Minota had five saves for Davis College, which will open the playoffs at home against Lancaster Bible College at 3:30 p.m. next Thursday.

Saturday, 9/30/06 vs. Christendom College

HAT TRICK LEADS FALCONS VICTORY

JOHNSON CITY -- Freshman Evan Hickernell's hat trick helped lift the Davis College men's soccer team to its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons defeated Christendom College, 3-2.

Hickernell scored two first-half goals as Davis (5-3) built a 2-1 halftime advantage. He scored his third goal with 10 minutes left in the game to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.

"We had some real senior leadership on our defense from captains Matt Bennett and Don Samson," Davis coach Tom O'Connor said. "They've been a big part of taking us to 5-2. The kids are playing well right now. We have seven freshmen starting, and they're maturing into a pretty good bunch."

Friday, 9/29/06 vs. Word of Life Bible Institute

THIGPEN SCORES TWICE FOR DAVIS MEN'S SOCCER

JOHNSON CITY, NY -- Tim Thigpen scored twice, and Evan Hickernell added the game-winner 25 minutes into the second half as the Davis College men's soccer team edged visiting Word of Life Bible Institute 3-2 on Friday.

Thigpen, who also assisted on Hickernell's winner, scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season in the first half for Davis College (4-3), which has won three straight since starting the season 1-3.

Afterward, Davis coach Tom O'Connor gave credit to his defense, which held Word of Life to just six shots.

"It was one of those games where one mistake could break your back," O'Connor said. "And we tightened up the last 25 minutes and didn't make that mistake."

Hickernell scored his fourth goal of the season from 18 yards out, finding a top corner.

Tuesday, 9/26/06 vs. Williamson Trade (Media, PA)

Tim Thigpen had a goal and two assists, as the Falcons (3-3) prevented Williamson coach Tim Wolski from picking up his 100th career victory. "It was like a circus atmosphere, they planned on beating us," Davis coach Tom O'Connoor said. "The kids came back and scored two second-half goals. I think we found ourselves as a team. This was a big win."

DAVIS COLLEGE MEN WIN IN OVERTIME

FRONT ROYAL, VA -- Freshman Tim Thigpen scored his second goal of the game four minutes into overtime, lifting Davis College to a 3-2 non-conference victory over host Christendom College. Freshman Evan Hickernell added a goal and an assist for Davis College (2-3), which owned an 11-4 advantage in shots over Christendom (3-1). "It was a battle throughout, just a defensive battle back and forth," said Davis College coach Tom O'Connor. "It was a great win on the road for us."

Tuesday, 9/19/06, vs. Philadelphia Biblical University (Langhorne, PA)

LANGHORNE, PA -- Davis College's men had control during the early stages Tuesday, but host Philadelphia Biblical University turned things around in a big way and posted a 7-1 soccer victory.
