FALCONS END SEASON WITH
1-4 LOSS TO PBU IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
CAMDEN,
N.J. -- The Davis College men's soccer
team's season ended on Saturday in the
National Christian College Athletic
Association Division II Eastern Regional
finals, as the Falcons lost to Philadelphia
Biblical University, 4-1.
Philadelphia scored three times in the
second half to break a 1-1 tie. Derek Mosley
scored twice in the second half, including
the game-winner 10 minutes after halftime.
Philadelphia (18-3) earned a trip to the
NCCAA National Tournament next week in
Kissimmee, Fla.
"We were a
half away from pulling a major upset," Davis
College coach Tom O'Connor said. "It was 2-1
with 15 minutes to go, and we just could not
put a goal in as hard as we tried."
Tim
Thigpen scored an unassisted first-half goal
for Davis College (9-4). Caleb Minota made
17 saves in goal as the Falcons were outshot,
21-5.
"I give
them all the credit in the world," O'Connor
said of his team. "Going to the championship
game with seven freshmen, we can build on
that for next year."

Davis College's men earned
their first berth in the National Collegiate
Christian Athletic Association's Northeast
Region soccer final with Thursday's 3-0
semifinal victory over visiting Lancaster
Bible College.
Freshman
Eavan Hickernell pulled even with teammate
Tim Thigpen for the team lead with his 12th
and 13th goals of the season -- the second
assisted by Thigpen -- to help the Falcons
extend their program-record win streak to an
eighth match. The third goal was scored by
Naoki Kagawa off an assist by Tim Thigpen.
Hickernell
and Thigpen had recently been named to the
All-Region team.
"The kids
have been focused and they've just grown,"
Davis coach Tom O'Connor said. "After a 1-3
start, to be in the championship has been a
nice ride."
The
Falcons, who had a 20-5 advantage in shots
Thursday, will visit Philadelphia Biblical
University for the title match at 1 p.m.
Saturday.

KEY TO 7TH STRAIGHT WIN FOR FALCONS
POTTERSVILLE, NY --
Freshmen Tim Thigpen and Evan Hickernell
each had a goal and an assist in the first
half, as the visiting Davis College men's
soccer team closed out its regular season
with a 2-1 victory Thursday over the Word of
Life Bible Institute.
The win was the seventh
straight for Davis College (8-3), breaking
the school record of six straight wins set
by the 1999 team, according to coach Tom
O'Connor. Thigpen's goal, his 13th of the
season, tied a single-season team record.
Hickernell's goal was his 11th of the
season.
"When we were sitting 1-3
a month ago, 8-3 seemed a long way away,"
Davis coach Tom O'Connor said. "So I give
these kids all the credit in the world."
Caleb Minota had five
saves for Davis College, which will open the
playoffs at home against Lancaster Bible
College at 3:30 p.m. next Thursday.

MEN'S SOCCER TEAM WINS
SIX STRAIGHT

CITY, NY -- Evan Hickernell scored twice as
host Davis College built a three-goal lead
and held on for a 4-3 victory over Marywood
College in a men's college match Wednesday.
Davis (7-3) won its sixth straight match. It
took a 4-1 lead early in the second half on
Tim Thigpen's goal. Marywood, an NCAA
Division III program, scored twice to cut
the deficit to one with about 10 minutes.
Adam Romero made six saves for Davis.

LANCASTER,
Pa. -- Freshman Tim Thigpen scored the
game-winning goal off a pass from Cannon
Mentzer with three minutes left, and the
Davis College men's soccer team clinched a
home playoff game with a 2-1 victory over
Lancaster Bible College on Thursday.
The
Falcons (6-3) will host Lancaster on Oct. 26
in a East Regional semifinal game in the
National Christian College Athletic
Association playoffs. It will be Davis'
first home playoff game.

LEADS FALCONS VICTORY

CITY -- Freshman Evan Hickernell's hat trick
helped lift the Davis College men's soccer
team to its fourth consecutive victory on
Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons defeated
Christendom College, 3-2.
Hickernell
scored two first-half goals as Davis (5-3)
built a 2-1 halftime advantage. He scored
his third goal with 10 minutes left in the
game to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.
"We had
some real senior leadership on our defense
from captains Matt Bennett and Don Samson,"
Davis coach Tom O'Connor said. "They've been
a big part of taking us to 5-2. The kids are
playing well right now. We have seven
freshmen starting, and they're maturing into
a pretty good bunch."

THIGPEN SCORES TWICE
FOR DAVIS MEN'S SOCCER

CITY, NY -- Tim Thigpen scored twice, and
Evan Hickernell added the game-winner 25
minutes into the second half as the Davis
College men's soccer team edged visiting
Word of Life Bible Institute 3-2 on Friday.
Thigpen,
who also assisted on Hickernell's winner,
scored his ninth and 10th goals of the
season in the first half for Davis College
(4-3), which has won three straight since
starting the season 1-3.
Afterward,
Davis coach Tom O'Connor gave credit to his
defense, which held Word of Life to just six
shots.
"It was one of those games
where one mistake could break your back,"
O'Connor said. "And we tightened up the last
25 minutes and didn't make that mistake."
Hickernell scored his
fourth goal of the season from 18 yards out,
finding a top corner.

SECOND HALF GOALS KEY
TO FALCONS' VICTORY
MEDIA, PA -- Naioki Kagawa
and Tim Sanford each scored second-half
goals to lift the Davis College men's soccer
team to a 3-1 victory over Williamson Trade
School on Tuesday afternoon in a non-league
contest in Media, Pa. Tim Thigpen had a goal
and two assists, as the Falcons (3-3)
prevented Williamson coach Tim Wolski from
picking up his 100th career victory. "It was
like a circus atmosphere, they planned on
beating us," Davis coach Tom O'Connoor said.
"The kids came back and scored two
second-half goals. I think we found
ourselves as a team. This was a big win."

DAVIS COLLEGE MEN WIN IN
OVERTIME

Freshman Tim Thigpen scored his second goal
of the game four minutes into overtime,
lifting Davis College to a 3-2
non-conference victory over host Christendom
College. Canon Mentzer hit Thigpen with a
pass from midfield, and the freshman took
two dribbles before stopping and ripping his
seventh goal of the season in from about 20
yards out. Freshman Evan Hickernell added a
goal and an assist for Davis College (2-3),
which owned an 11-4 advantage in shots over
Christendom (3-1). "It was a battle
throughout, just a defensive battle back and
forth," said Davis College coach Tom
O'Connor. "It was a great win on the road
for us."
Tuesday, 9/19/06, vs.
Philadelphia Biblical University (Langhorne,
PA)
LANGHORNE,
PA -- Davis
College's men had control during the early
stages Tuesday, but host Philadelphia
Biblical University turned things around in
a big way and posted a 7-1 soccer victory.
Tim Thigpen's goal 10
minutes into play for the Falcons (1-3) was
not answered until 25 minutes had expired,
but by halftime it was 5-1.
The Philadelphia squad is
unbeaten in five matches.

Baptist Bible College
JOHNSON CITY-- Baptist
Bible College scored three goals in a
12-minute span in the first half and pulled
away for a 4-2 men's soccer victory over
Davis College on Tuesday afternoon.

Rosetta scored three goals for Baptist Bible
(3-0).
Tim Thigpen had a goal and
an assist for Davis (1-2), and Evan
Hickernell also scored.
"We came out and beat them
in the second half, and I'm very, very proud
of my team," Davis College coach Tom
O'Connor said. "It was a moral victory for
us. We haven't played that kind of game
against (Baptist Bible) in years."

Valley Forge Christian College
PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Freshman
Tim Thigpen scored three goals on Saturday
afternoon, and the Davis College men's
soccer team picked up its first victory of
the season by beating Valley Forge Christian
College, 4-1, in Phoenixville, Pa.
Evan
Hickernell, another Davis freshman, scored
once. Adam Romero made four saves for the
Falcons (1-1), who host Baptist Bible
College on Tuesday.
"It was a
good bounce-back victory after our loss to
Albany Pharmacy on Wednesday," Davis coach
Tom O'Connor said. "The offense played much
more as a team. Defensively, we were very,
very strong."
