February 28, 2008: Falcons Lose Championship Game to VFCC

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. -- Davis College managed to get within 10 points of Valley Forge with 10 minutes to go in the first half, but the Falcons couldn't get any closer and lost Friday's National Christian College Athletic Association Eastern Region final to the Patriots, 97-59.

Tyree Hankerson led the Falcons (14-7) with 22 points. Tyler Rathmell had 13 points and Jeff Mack finished with 10 for Davis College.

Valley Forge's Nate Fuller had a game-high 31 points. Valley Forge will represent the Eastern Region in the NCCAA national tournament.

February 27, 2008: Davis College Advances to Title Game with Win Over Philadelphia Biblical University

JOHNSON CITY -- Freshman Tyree Hankerson had 21 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead Davis College to an 87-74 victory over Philadelphia Biblical University in an NCCAA Division II Regional semifinal.

Tyler Rathmell added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons, who rallied from a 35-30 halftime deficit with a 57-point second-half outburst.

Davis will travel to Valley Forge (21-10) for the NCCAA Division II Regional championship on Friday at 8 p.m.

It is Davis College's first title appearance in more than 10 years, according to coach Tom O'Connor.

Philadelphia's Tom Arthur had 19 of his game-high 31 points in the first half. Arthur also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Crimson Eagles.

Charles Clark added 22 points and Jeff Mack chipped in 18 points and five assists for the Falcons (14-6).

The Falcons' four freshman starters --Hankerson, Rathmell, Clark, and Mack -- each had at least 18 points, which O'Connor said is a credit to assistant coaches Larry King and Dan Rathmell, Jr., who have developed the players.


February 17, 2008: Falcons Lose to Valley Forge

JOHNSON CITY -- Davis College men's and women's basketball teams lost at home Saturday to Valley Forge Christian College in National Christian College Athletic Association games.

Valley Forge's men led by three at the half and took control with an 8-0 run en route to a 99-75 victory.

Jeff Mack led Davis College (12-5, 6-2) with 21 points. The Falcons have two regular-season games left, both on the road. Valley Forge is 20-10, 8-1.

February 7, 2008: Davis College Beats Albany College of Pharmacy

JOHNSON CITY - Tyler Rathmell had 25 points and 10 rebounds, one of three Davis College men's basketball players to record double-doubles in the Falcons' 69-62 home victory over Albany College of Pharmacy on Thursday night.

Tyree Hankerson scored 20 points and grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds for the Falcons (12-5) in the non-conference victory, and Jeff Mack added 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Falcons also hit 23 of 25 free throws.

"It was a good win on a bad offensive night for us," Davis College coach Tom O'Connor said. "The defense held up our offense for the first time all season. It's good for the kids to understand that defense can win you games."


February 4, 2008: Davis College Men Beat Cazenovia JV

JOHNSON CITY -- Tyree Hankerson's 26 points headed four Davis College players with 20 or more Monday night in a 100-86 basketball victory over Cazenovia College's junior varsity.

Hankerson added 13 rebounds for the Falcons (11-5), who'd dropped two recent games by a combined seven points.

Tyler Rathmell added 24 points, and Charles Clark and Jeff Mack added 20 apiece for the winners, who are averaging 87 points per game.

"We play defense in spurts," Falcons coach Tom O'Connor said. "We're not worried about our offense, but we're constantly working on the defense."

January 29, 2008: Falcons Lose at Home on Buzzer-Beater

JOHNSON CITY, NY -- Ryan Carpenter got a steal and hit a buzzer-beating layup to lift Lancaster Bible College to an 89-87 road victory over Davis College on Tuesday night.

Davis College (10-5) tied the game with 29 seconds left on Tyler Rathmell's basket. The Falcons then stopped Lancaster and got the ball back under their basket with 2.7 seconds left. The Falcons' inbounds pass was tipped to Carpenter, who hit a layup right before the final buzzer.

"It was a tough way to lose," Davis College coach Tom O'Connor said. "We're young. The kids did everything we asked of them. Right now, we're struggling to make stops when we need to. It's a real tough one to take, but we move on from it."

Tyree Hankerson scored a game-high 30 points and had 13 rebounds for Davis College. Rathmell added 29 points on seven 3-pointers, Tim Sanford added 12 points and Jeff Wright added six points and seven assists.

Carl Edwards had 20 points for Lancaster Bible College, and Carpenter added 13.


January 24, 2008: Falcons Lose to Johnson College

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Defensive shortcomings proved Davis College's primary undoing Thursday night in an 86-81 men's basketball setback at Johnson College.

Jonathan Misiura's 41-point outburst included three of the hosts five three-point goals, and teammate Chris Gorges added 24 points and the remaining three-pointers.

"It was a basket-for-basket game the whole way," Falcons coach Tom O'Connor said. "We just couldn't get the stops we needed to close them out."

Tyree Hankerson had 24 points and 17 rebounds for Davis, and Tyler Rathmell and Jeff Mack added 17 points apiece-- Mack's output featuring five three-point goals.

"You never like to lose a game, but sometimes the kids need their eyes opened and hopefully, we'll learn from this one," O'Connor said.

The Falcons will bring a 10-4 record onto their home floor when they face Lancaster Bible College at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

January 23, 2008: Hankerson Leads Falcons' Rally

CAZENOVIA -- Tyree Hankerson scored a game-high 31 points with 14 rebounds Wednesday night to help Davis College rally for a 98-87 victory over the Cazenovia's junior varsity in a non-league men's basketball game.

"We just rode his back," Davis College coach Tom O'Connor said of Hankerson. Davis trailed 65-60 midway in the second half. From that point the Falcons went on a 38-22 run. "We had a spirited talk at halftime," O'Connor said. "I challenged the players to do their job and turn it up a notch and we did that."

Tyler Rathmell added 20 points and Jeff Mack had 20 points and five assists. Davis College finished 28-for-34 from the foul line.


January 21, 2008: Falcons Resume Play with Victory over Word of Life

POTTERSVILLE -- After a seven-week, semester-break layoff, both Davis College men's and women's basketball teams returned to action Monday night with mixed results at the Word of Life Bible Institute. The men defeated Word of Life 98-69.

Davis College's Jeff Mack scored 22 of his game-high 26 points in the first half. He also had 10 rebounds and four assists.

Tyree Hankerson added 24 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons (9-3), who hadn't played since Nov. 30.

The 98 points was a season-high.

November 30, 2007: Davis College Men End Slump

JOHNSON CITY -- Jon Mickelson scored 13 points and Tim Sanford added 12 as host Davis College snapped a three-game losing streak with an 89-49 victory over Washington Bible College in a men's basketball game Friday.

The Falcons (7-3) took command early, taking a 33-4 lead 11 minutes into the game.

"We've had three tough games in a row," Davis College coach Tom O'Connor said. "We didn't want to take this team for granted, so it was good to get off to a good start, get some other kids in there and get them some time."

Paul Yi led Washington Bible with 18 points.

November 28, 2007: Davis College Loses in Basketball

SCRANTON, PA -- A 10-day layoff hurt as Dave College shot just 9-for-38 in the first half and lost a non-league college basketball game, 76-64, at Marywood University Wednesday night.

Jeff Mack had a team-high 19 points for Davis College (6-3), which last played Nov. 17, a loss. Prince Blacknall led Marywood with 25 points.


November 17, 2007: Davis College Unable to Catch Up

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Matt Nelson scored 36 points and had six 3-pointers Saturday to lead Multonima University of Portland, Ore., past Davis College, 97-82, at Valley Forge Christian College.

Nelson's 36 points were the most any player has scored against Davis College (6-2) this season.

Multonima started the game on a 17-4 run and never relinquished the lead.

"We came out flat," Davis College coach Tom O'Connor said. "From then on it was catch up for the rest of the game."

Davis College's Charles Clark made his first start at point guard and had a season-high 28 points. O'Connor said the shuffle in the starting lineup was to enable Jeff Mack to move from point to his natural position at shooting guard.


Nov. 15, 2007: Falcons Hold On For Basketball Victory

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Tyler Rathmell scored 28 points, and Jeff Mack hit five of six free throws over the final 90 seconds as the Davis College men's basketball team hung on to beat Johnson Bible College, 92-91, Thursday in the first round of the Valley Forge Invitational.

Davis College (6-0) next faces Valley Forge at 8 tonight.

"It was a big win for us," said Falcons coach Tom O'Connor, adding that Johnson Bible College was the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association's Southeast Region champion last season.

"I told the kids after the game, I said, 'You know what, we'll take the win. We have some things to talk about, but we played well enough most of the game to win. So we'll take the win.'"

Davis College led 54-40 at halftime before Johnson Bible College cut the lead dangerously close over the final minutes.

Tyree Hankerson finished with 25 points and a team-high 17 rebounds, and Mack added 21 points and nine rebounds. With 13 rebounds, Denny Rowe has now hit double digits in all six games.

Nov. 12, 2007: Freshmen Lead Davis College Romp

JOHNSON CITY -- Four freshmen scored in double figures as Davis College continued its perfect start Tuesday night with a 95-61 men's basketball victory over visiting Johnson College from Scranton, Pa.

Jordan Hicks scored a game-high 20 points for Davis (5-0), which jumped out to a 53-30 halftime lead.

Fellow freshman Jeff Mack had 18 points to go along with his game-high five assists, and Tyree Hankerson added 16 points. Tyler Rathmell was the fourth freshman in double figures, scoring 15.

Also for Davis, Denny Rowe grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, marking the fifth straight game that he's hit double figures in rebounding.


Nov. 10, 2007: Davis Men Beat Tyndale Again, 93-61

The Davis College men's basketball team rolled to a 93-61 victory over Tyndale University on Saturday in Toronto, with six players scoring in double digits.

It was the second consecutive day Davis College (4-0) beat Tyndale (0-2).

"(Assistant) Larry King and I just tweaked some things before the game with our press, positioned them a little bit differently and we took advantage of our opportunities a little bit more today," Davis College coach Tom O'Connor said.

Jordan Hicks, John Hohman, Tyler Rathmell, Jeff Mack and Denny Rowle all scored 10 or more for Davis. Rowle added 11 rebounds for his third double-double in four games.

JOHNSON CITY -- Tyler Rathmell scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the first half Monday to help Davis College to a 96-84 victory over Word of Life Bible Institute in a non-league college basketball game.

Rathmell, a freshman small forward, had six three-pointers.

"He's a pure shooter," Falcons coach Tom O'Connor said.

Denny Rowe contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Jeff Mack had 17 points to go with eight assists.

Davis College (2-0) went on a 22-11 run in the first half to stretch its lead to 54-34 at halftime.

Mack's 20 Points Lift Falcons Men in Basketball Season Opener

JOHNSON CITY -- Jeff Mack scored 20 points, one of four Davis College men's basketball players to score in double figures, in a season-opening 78-69 victory over Christendom College on Friday night.

Tyler Rathmell scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half and grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds for the Falcons (1-0). Mack also had a game-high eight assists, Tyree Hankerson scored 16 points and Charles Clark added 13 points for Davis College.

Greg Monroe scored a game-high 39 points for Christendom (0-1).

"Defensively we've got to do a little better job," Davis College coach Tom O'Connor said. "When a kid lights you up for 39 points ... we did a lot of trailing and didn't do a lot of talking on defense. But overall for the first night, we'll take it. It's a long season, and we've got to go one step at a time, so we'll take it."
