Davis College Receives
Ancient Hebrew Torah Scroll
Davis
College has received an ancient Torah scroll that will
enrich our campus, particularly for scholars studying
Hebrew. The presentation was made by Rev. Glenn Siegrist, on behalf of the Louise Family Foundation, in
President's Chapel on Tuesday, April 26, 2005.
The Torah
has been dated as having been written between the late
1300's and early to mid 1400's in Northern Europe. Each leaf
of the 110-foot scroll is written in strikingly beautiful
Hebrew writing on white sheepskin parchment, and is
exceptionally large at over 29 inches high.
The Torah will be on display
after May 10th in the Alice E. Chatlos Library.
