The Davis College men’s and women’s basketball teams are partnering with the Rescue Mission and Coalition for the Homeless of the Southern Tier to collect items during upcoming home games for those experiencing homelessness in the Broome County area.
Items gathered during the basketball games on January 21 and 23 will be given out during an upcoming homeless outreach to be conducted by a team of Rescue Mission volunteers on January 27. Residents from the Rescue Mission will be helping to distribute the supplies to the homeless on the streets as well.
Supplies needed include: Bottles of water/Gatorade, insulated socks, thermal underwear, gloves/hats, hand/feet warmers, ponchos, wipes, bus passes, granola bars (Cliff bars or similar preferred), and Ziploc bags. Anyone bringing a donated item will receive free admission to the games.
On Tuesday, January 21 the Davis women’s game starts at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. and on Thursday, January 23 the Davis men host Albany College of Pharmacy at 7 p.m.
The homeless outreach is also open to the public. If you would like to volunteer, please come to the City Light Cafe’ on Washington Street for a training session this Wednesday, January 22nd at 12 noon.
