As announced in a press conference this afternoon, Davis College will become full members of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II for all of our intercollegiate athletic programs starting July 1.
The USCAA, formed in 2001, is a national organization that exists to provide quality athletic competition on a regional and national level. The USCAA focuses specifically on smaller institutions of higher learning and their student athletes. Currently, there are 85 colleges and universities nationwide that are members of the USCAA and that number is growing quickly based on the organization’s reputation among its current members.
Dan Rathmell, Athletic Director at Davis College said, “Joining the USCAA provides our student athletes an opportunity to compete for national titles as well as earn recognition for their individual accomplishments on a national spotlight.” Currently, Davis offers four varsity sports including men’s and women’s basketball, men’s soccer, and a women’s volleyball team. Rathmell added that they plan to add more sports as enrollment continues to grow.
Davis College athletics was associated with the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) until 2009, but left due to a lack of members in the northeast region. Since that time, Davis has been playing an independent schedule. “We have already been competing with several schools from the USCAA in the last few seasons, so joining the organization is a natural fit.” Rathmell continued.
