Post details: Caged Virgin by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
Caged Virgin by Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Not a nice read at all, but a necessary one all the same. Muslim women are second class people. Not much of a review here, Ali's words are too powerful; mine would only diminish their force.
So I ask, what does the word "submit" mean in Paul and Peter's letters? Hopefully nothing as what Ali describes.

I struggle with Paul and his word submit.
To some of us women, its a dirty word.
I look at God's Voice in those Scripture pages and think... He must have meant it as a challenging blessing. Looking at some of what Paul says, the husbands-love-wives./wives-submit-to-husbands combos, I think Paul is just hitting our weakness... maybe there is a desire in womankind to submit, but a rebel streak (hey, I've got one of those) when it comes to the putting-into-practice of submission. To be helpless and give up will is such a hard thing to give; the desert fathers have been reminding me how important it is though... that stubborn will can hold me back from the Holy Lover, my Abba, my Jesus. Submit? What do you think it means, how is it positive?

Sorry but I have to say that this book was not very interesting for me! There were parts that were against my belief and so I was almost unable to read it to the finish!

The complex relationship between women and Islam is defined by both Islamic texts and the history and culture of the Muslim world.

What youre saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I also love the images you put in here. They fit so well with what youre trying to say. Im sure youll reach so many people with what youve got to say.

The word "submit" is often misused. Though meekness and submissiveness are good qualities, women should only submit to their husbands in righteousness. "Submit" means just that and does not imply force.
