Listening to God

Post details: Jeremiah 25 the end

Jeremiah 25 the end

I, Jeremiah, have been appointed by G-d over
the nations to destroy and overthrow

many years ago I saw that call
but until now the scope of that destruction
paled compared to what I now vision

this revelation process perplexes, even me
a glimpse, perhaps a word read, was it heard?
but together trigger thoughts
which I imagine into words, those I speak
and later write—G-d’s surely
but mine also

it was a Judas night—storms rolled, a light show
Joel would call it the Day of the Lord, I could not
name the horror—just complete destruction
the mashhet (the first born’s destroyer) worked his evil

how can any god call Nebuchadnezzar “my servant”
this Nebuchadnezzar will demolish Jerusalem, rape
its women, kill its men, and exile its children
that’s sitra achra—other side

as the vision rolls Nebuchadnezzar molests our
neighbors: Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyre, also desert dwellers
all gone, ruined, Pharaoh likewise, Egypt no more

The dream continues, Babylon, refined by wealth, faces
a foe, yhwh—hardly a god
if he does not avenge—asks “who is this violator of my people?”
what they did to others, will be done to them
the tool is returned to the forge's heat
and yet the dream penetrates farther afield

This seer visions that previously blank
it’s all over, nothing remains, yhwh himself appears
locked and loaded—as he created
he terminates; the world may have experienced the extent of his mercy

Rabbi Jeremiah,
Death and destruction always sounds like a more pleasant job when God justifies, eh? I think about Jesus’ words, talking with His disciples… He said He did not come to bring peace, but dissension, to turn brother on brother and parents against children. My mind races to that Mosaic story of the future High Priest taking a sword and sticking those two sinners… death randomly inflicted throughout the camp. That full cup of precious, bitter water, maybe it was Wormwood water that Moses passed amongst the people… Yhwh’s cup of bitter wrath that was handed to all disobedience people in judgment… even His own; the most difficult task before you, to bear the cup of wrath to “the Queen of Heaven…” the bride of Yhwh, Your own people.

Could you imagine the full heat of God’s wrath when His cup is poured out on the people in a fury that scourges their backs with Babylon. See, hear, triggered thoughts, words from God? How do you discern between your own thoughts and concerns and those of Yhwh? What sort of process brought you to a place of imagining the worst of all Yhwh’s judgments on His own people whom He loves and has called unto Himself? How much has your personal experience factored into your interpretation of the thoughts, events, scriptures, and occasions in your life given way to “this is the word of the Lord”? When Yhwh speaks to His people, two occasions only are occasion for speaking: obedience with blessing and disobedience in cursing. You have been handed a great extent His picture of judgment, and you must convey it with a kiss.

Judas night? The mashhit seals the coming day of the lord with the kiss of death… He brings that cup to the bride of Yhwh as a test for adultery: will she spit back into the cup, and so reject Him, or will she be proven innocent? It doesn’t take much to envision the result of that test; You know already that you are bearing the cup to your beloved, Yhwh’s bride. The evil work put into your hands, that Sitra Achra which desires a sacrifice of obedience has required that You present the cup of His wrath, drinking of it Yourself, to His own. The stuff within this cup, wrath, greed… you and your people will be forced to so says Obadiah; one must feast in on the disorientating holiness perceived in life with Yhwh… revealing that it is not a love potion you, with Israel drink: “they will drink ,will drink greedily, but they will be as though they had never been born.” (Obadiah v.16) The mashhit deceptively uses a means of life to cut off the disobedient in death… his kiss is appealing, what soul would not want an eternal rest/sleep?

One side of violence and deception reveals another: for all Yhwh’s jealousy, could He not punish in style rather than a Babylonian exile? Punishing the apostates by the pagans seems so unfair of Yhwh, but of course that cup of destruction is far ranker than imagined. How could such a God kiss His people to sleep and care for them, while all the time preparing and allowing Nebuchadnezzar to obtain power for rule; the dream has become a nightmare and the unimaginable horrors tangible realities. Existential hell, beyond that spiritual/theological reality in which we play, seems to disprove Yhwh; “Hardly a god?” If He is to proclaim Himself and be renowned, how much discipline can He truly allow? He has forged the chalice of wrath, those great bowls of judgment to pour out on the earth. How little we ever understand that the scald of the chalice is to purge our souls- living hell or redemptive purgatory? Termination… the extent of mercy must reach an end, but I wonder if that’s only in God Himself. Too often we cut it short by refusing the cup of judgment… it is mercy from ourselves.

Who has care about just another god named Yahweh among the many? Yet Yahweh seems to love this underdog concept, he even places himself in it sometimes. Who cares about the god of some backwater nation, heck who cares about some guy named Yeshua when he's just another guy in insignificant, yet rather rebellious state. Yet both have now become the world known over... Yahweh forced his people to exile because of their sins, sure, but it also seems to spread further his name. Persecution came to those in Jerusalem so that the Messiah might be furthered. Yet even now I guess Yahweh is once more becoming hidden amongst a people who known him so well.

Who care about just another god named Yahweh among the many? I find it interesting that Yahweh's name meant something important to him. Oh the rules of not using his name, of the convincing of what's best for his name and so on and so forth. Yet we don't even know what it truly looked like that wonderful Hebrew YHWH stuff. His name which was important has been forgotten in sad ways. I mean I know name means reputation, but still there is that slightly humorous correlation.

So as Babylon comes, which they will they aren't the least bit worried, after all, Who cares about just another god named Yahweh among the many. The many small nations have a god who has fallen and will remain dead probably why worry about this one in Israel, just another god. Yet though Yahweh allows this he is not dead, he has moved to his people as Ezekiel well knows. Though his country is gone and destroyed he will bring it back to glory. My how far Yahweh goes that he would allow his name to be dragged through the mud. Exile and return, yet he remains with his people, despite how quick they bring themselves to sin.

How quick we are to sin... Oh how much Abuse Jesus takes all to get us walking back into the right path. Who cares about just another god named Yahweh among the many? I have to raise my hand and say I do... Despite the punishments that he bring and the forgiveness I can forget.
