Listening to God

Post details: Does the church need a prophet?

Does the church need a prophet?

Why isn't the bible good enough?
because no one ever reads it
too much counseling
too much theology
too much worship
not enough Jeremiah
not enough Psalms
does anyone read and weep anymore?
does anyone weep and read anymore?
does the church need a prophet?

The bible isn't good enough...interesting. I must ask, good enough for what? Good enough to make me happy, good enough to make me holy, good enough to guide me, good enough to have nothing to do with me, good enough to seemingly have everything other people need for whatever ails them? What is the bible's purpose to even qualify it as 'good enough.' Plenty of us read it. Not many of us know why Jeremiah, why Isaiah, why Micah, why Psalms, why bother. I read...and read...and weep...and weep for understanding. Just a hint of wisdom. A breath of comfort. A whisper of purpose.
Repentence is an ancient word. Used in a time when action equaled action. and faith was enhanced by proof.
Does the church need a prophet, a judge, a Jeremiah? Why? So Yahweh's people will "repent?" Repent from what? Repent to what? And who would pay attention? Evangelists have closed that door.

Oh yeah, this idea of walking in truth, is that active, or passive?

What I meant in all of the useless rambling above is, should we
not all be prophets? We have all been given the 'word'(message,
behavior?) of God and have been charged to act on it. At the
same time, walking in this truth is more of a passive action.
If God is calling for His people to repent, He should send a
prophet. But what is one to do when God is absent and the only
instruction you have from Him is 2,000 years old? Please
understand I am not fighting repentence, truth, or any of that.
My motive is purely to understand.
