What You Should Know About Microfiche
Our library has a collection of over 9,000 theses
and dissertations stored on microfiche. Each paper
has been reduced in size to fit on one or two small
plastic sheets. Reading these documents requires
placing the cards in the microfiche reading (on main
floor) that projects the pages on a viewing screen.
Working with microfiche is a little more trouble
than using a book or periodical. However, the
theses (master's level) and dissertations (doctoral
level) represent a lot of excellent research on
important topics, often hard to find elsewhere. The
papers were written by graduate students in
Christian institutions in the U.S. and Canada.
They are also cataloged in the library. In the
title, you will see the word [microfiche] in
brackets. The microfiche do not leave the library,
but are used on the microfiche reader, located on
the main floor. Here is an example of what a
microfiche bibliographic record looks like.
