Davis College 51 - Houghton JV 56
The Davis women lost to Houghton JV 56-51 despite a strong defensive effort. Forward Marisa Wickham led Davis with 13 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Cindy Ellis had 11 points and 10 rebounds in her collegiate debut.
"We had two major defensive lapses in the second half that really cost us," said Davis Coach Larry Ellis. Davis led 24-22 at the half.
The Falcons led by six points halfway through the second half, but three turnovers resulted in transition baskets that tied the game. Hannah Fink (18 points) scored on three straight possessions to give Houghton a 6-point lead. Cindy Ellis hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to three with 30 seconds left, but it wasn't enough as Jamie Coleman hit four of five free throws to seal the win.
"For our first game with four freshmen seeing significant playing time, I was actually quite pleased," said Ellis.
Davis hosts Central Penn at 1 p.m. Saturday.
